SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

Being an eco-tourist means that you have an awareness that allows you to interact with the nature while respecting the environment in which we all live.

Mayab Center has taken much care to maintain the delicate balance of nature, and serve as a model for our guests. We want to make as little impact on the environment as possible while providing visitors a pleasurable, comfortable experience. We hope that your vacation here will be not only relaxing, but educational as well.

You are invited to ask questions, explore our growing library, and join in conversations about the important issues affecting the local ecosystems and by extension, all of us.

WHY ECO-TOURISM MATTERS

Tulum is a pristine place and a fragile ecosystem, and we should be attempting to take better care of it. Thankfully, some people are. More hotels and businesses are using solar and wind for their power needs. Many are changing their habits to respect turtles during their nesting season. Also, tourists are educating themselves about these issues and are starting to use their power as consumers to make more conscious, responsible choices while on vacation.

While ecotourism will never be THE solution for environmental conservation, it often serves as a catalyst to other services and practices important to sustainable development, thus contributing to positive change. Tourists, business owners, investors and the local community all share in this opportunity. And there are real decisions that caring and educated travelers can make either to improve or degrade the delicate environments through which they pass.

At Mayab, we plan to be a part of the solution, providing a place to gather and learn, a place to explore and meditate, a place to connect with that sense of oneness that will change the way we interact with each other and the planet. As the Maya say, “In lak’ech.” You are another brother of mine.
